Are Liquidation Pallets Worth It?
Liquidation pallets can be worth buying when the merchandise fits your market and the total costs leave room for a realistic return. They can also lose money. The result depends on the particular lot and your ability to process and sell it.
Measure Sellable Yield
A pallet with 100 listed units does not necessarily contain 100 units you can sell. Missing parts, faults, unsuitable products and weak demand can reduce the useful stock. Estimate conservatively before purchase, then record the actual yield after receipt.
Use Realistic Selling Prices
Original retail values can be very different from prices achieved for returned, used or incomplete goods. Compare the correct model and condition using completed sales or your own sales records.
Count Your Time and Expenses
Freight, storage, cleaning, repair parts, photographs, packaging and marketplace fees all matter. Include labour even if you do the work yourself, especially when comparing one category with another.
A Simple Example
Suppose a hypothetical lot generates $2,400 of sales and has $1,100 in purchase and freight costs plus $650 in processing and selling costs. The remaining $650 is before any other business costs and taxes. If sales are slower or repairs cost more, that amount can shrink or disappear.
Choose a Manageable First Order
Start with stock you understand and avoid scaling until you know your actual results. Buying more of an unfamiliar category increases both workload and cash exposure.
